Rambouillet has three museums that appeal to kids (of all ages). At the far western edge of the château grounds is the Bergerie Nationale a working farm built by Louis XVI, with cowsheds, stables, pigs, buffalos and the world-famous Rambouillet Merino sheep. Visitors can sample the fresh farm cheese, munch on lamb burgers in the snack bar, or learn about the history of sheep herding in the farm museum. (reduced rates with a stamped multi-site brochure). Although the farm is in the château grounds, it’s easier to reach by bicycle or car than through the park (from town turn left on Rue Raymond Poincaré; free parking).
